Treasurer's Duties
The County Treasurer is responsible for mailing tax statements, collecting property taxes, and disbursing the taxes to the taxing entities.
The County Treasurer also receives monies sent to Dolores County, maintains correct and proper accounting of all monies, disbursing the monies upon orders
from the Board of County Commissioners, and investing monies until they are needed.
The County Treasurer does not determine taxes.
Important Tax Information:
- Taxes are due January 1.
- Taxes may be paid in two equal payments. To avoid penalties, the first half must be paid prior to March 1st, and the second half must be
paid prior to June 16th.
If the first installment is not paid by the twenty-eighth day of February, delinquent interest on the amount thereof shall accrue at the
rate of one percent per month from the first day of March until the fifteenth day of June or to the date of payment if such first installment is paid
prior to the fifteenth day of June; but, if the full amount of taxes is paid in a single payment no later than the last day of April, then no delinquent
interest shall accrue on any portion of the taxes.
- All unpaid taxes become delinquent June 16th.
- Property will be advertised for sale for delinquent taxes on or before November 10. The sale will begin on or before the second Monday in December.
- When property is sold for taxes, the amount for which the same is sold draws interest from the date of sale at the rate of 9 percent above the
discount rate September 1st of each year.
- Property may be redeemed at any time within three years from the date of sale. After three years a tax deed can be legally issued.
- All tax payments made after publication will be charged an advertising charge based on the actual lineage, and in no case will the amount be less than
$2.00.
- Be careful when asking for tax bills to furnish accurate description of your property, lot, and block number.
- Personal property will be advertised in September with interest and advertising fee.
- District Warrants will be issued November 1st if Personal Taxes are not paid prior to that time.
